Mr. Burns is an LTP Managing Principal. Mr. Burns co-founded LTP with Russell E. Planitzer in 1998 and has since then headed LTP's Washington DC office. In addition to his LTP responsibilities, Mr. Burns is actively involved with the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association ("MAVA") since 1998. In January 2005, Mr. Burns was elected by the board of directors to a 3-year term as President of MAVA.
From 1982 to 1996, Mr. Burns served in leadership positions at Intersolv, Inc., previously named Sage Software, a company he founded in 1982. Mr. Burns served as president and CEO until October 1996, at which time he became Chairman of the Board. Over this period, Intersolv, Inc. developed and launched market-leading software products in the application development and management space and raised venture capital from leading investors including New Enterprise Associates and JH Whitney. Mr. Burns was CEO of Intersolv, Inc. at the time of Intersolv's IPO in 1986. Subsequently, Intersolv, Inc. was acquired in 1998 by Microfocus, a publicly-traded UK company, in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at approximately $630 million.
Mr. Burns has led LTP investments including SignalSoft, Inc., Compatible Systems Corp. and Terascape, Inc.
Mr. Burns holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business finance from Ohio State University, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado.
Investment Focus: Mr. Burns's areas of investment focus include infrastructure software and business process applications, with particular expertise in security, system software and internet-based applications.
